The common can be beautiful as well.
The ordinary wonders of the world:
Snowflakes, leaves, grass, and dew, clouds rolling high
Cloud on cloud, flower over flower growing,
The roaring ocean tide on grains of sand.
Hands, hair, heartbeats. All these common to man,
Yet each an articulate phenomena
Of creative cosmic craft. Common?
Come on and look at each individual, alike and unique.
Closer,
closer,
a closure against drab thoughts.
Sparks pop from old logs lit by primordial fire,
Trapped power released into black night with
Smoke rising higher and majestic, soon waved
From coughing faces to friends across the space of a few feet —
Chatting, laughing, speaking common words
Combined in multitudes of meaning, leaning
In to hear, to share common experience
and finding extroardinary joy.
